Panel Selected for U.K. Study

The U.K. Home Office has named members of the Gambling Review Body, a panel that will consider ways to modernize British gambling legislation and regulation.

The members are:

  • David Bishop, former partner in KPMG and past president of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants;
  • Mihir Bose, author and journalist;
  • Peter Dean, CBE, chairman of the Gaming Board for Great Britain;
  • Professor Jeffrey Gray, experimental and clinical psychologist;
  • Anthony Mackintosh, chairman, Groucho Club;
  • Phillipa Marks, director, Indepen Consulting Limited;
  • Sara Nathan, journalist;
  • Anesta Weekes QC, barrister; and
  • Jonathan Wolff, reader and head of Department of Philosophy, University College London.

"The review body provides an extensive range of expertise across a broad spectrum of relevant professions. Their knowledge and insight will ensure a balanced and informed consideration of all the issues," said Home Office Minister Mike O'Brien. "I look forward to receiving the review body's report and recommendations next year."

The review body will begin work this spring, and will seek views from interested parties sometime later. It's expected to report back by summer 2001.
