Penn National and Pocono Downs Sign with Youbet

18 May 1999
Youbet.com has added Penn National Race Course and Pocono Downs to its closed loop, at-home horse betting network. The signings signify Youbet's 27th and 28th partnerships.

The two tracks, both owned and operated by publicly held Penn National Gaming, Inc., agreed to non-exclusive agreements with Youbet.com to offer live online horse racing and wagering on the You Bet Network, which offers online horseracing and wagering in the U.S.

Penn National Gaming Vice President Joe Lashinger believes that the continued growth of the thoroughbred and standardbred industries will be heavily influenced by the involvement of online interactive programming and wagering. "We are excited about joining Youbet.com's home distribution network and playing a part in the continued growth of the sport of kings," Lashinger said.

Penn National owns, operates and conducts wagering at its Penn National Race Course and Pocono Downs Racetrack, and at its 10 off-track wagering facilities in Allentown, Erie, Reading, Chambersburg, York, Williamsport, Lancaster, Hazleton, Carbondale and Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The company also owns and operates Charles Town Races, a live thoroughbred racing facility in Jefferson County, West Virginia, which also features 935 slot machines.

Los Angeles-based Youbet.com, Inc. announced in 1998 the public release of the You Bet Network, the only interactive online horse racing network in the U.S. The company provides members the ability to watch and wager on a wide selection of coast-to-coast thoroughbred and standard-bred horse racing, via its exclusive private closed loop network. Members have 24 hour access to the network's features, including live racing from a choice of 28 race tracks across the country, commingled track pools, live audio/video, up-to-the-minute track information, real-time wagering information, and value-added handicapping products.
