Three weeks ago, the U.S. attorney general's office replied to Jay Cohen's petition for writ of certiorari before the Supreme Court.

Cohen is seeking to overturn a March 2000 conviction in New York federal court of eight counts relating to Internet gambling charges. In doing so, Cohen has asked the Supreme Court to consider the case.

Filed on Feb. 22, Cohen's petition for consideration before the United States' highest court seeks to convince the nine justices that there is a split in decisions relating to the Wire Act among circuit courts.

After receiving the petition, the Court asked the U.S. government to respond to Cohen's case. The attorney general's office authored the government's reply, which was filed May 15.

As per procedure, Cohen's legal team was given the chance to reply to the government's response.

Cohen's lawyers expect the Supreme Court to decide whether it will render judgment on his case by June 13.
