Prize Central Cashes in on Blackjack.com

23 June 1999
Blackjack.com is the latest gaming related domain name to sell for big bucks. Its previous owner, Prize Central Networks, sold it to an unannounced "Canadian investment firm" for $460,000.

Prize Central, the operators of the highly popular free-play site, Virtual Vegas, said that the move was part of a larger strategy to diversify to a comprehensive classic game site and become a major player in the online incentives market. The cash infusion will be used for both operating and marketing expenses geared toward growing this new business model and toward leveraging the company's proprietary rewards system technology.

"The sale will allow us to focus on our incentives technology and launch new games faster than we had planned," CEO David Herschman said. "We have been historically quite profitable, and this serves to boost profits even higher for us. "

Prize Central games include solitaire, Minesweeper, stock picking, blackjack, slots, poker, craps and roulette. The company will soon add hearts, spades, Tetris and a variety of interactive guessing games to this list. The new games will come be launched sooner than originally expected due to the cash sale of the blackjack.com domain name.
