The Public Sector Gaming Study Commission (PSGSC), a sane alternative to the National Gambling Impact Study Commission, has scheduled its next meeting for August 20-21 in Boston Massachusetts. One of the primary focuses of the agenda this time around is the lottery.
Questions such as, "How is the lottery regulated?"; "Are the states able to regulate lotteries themselves adequately?"; "Where and how is the lottery advertised?"; and "What types of advertising standards are
appropriate?" will be addressed.
In addition to lotteries, the panel will examine charitable bingo gaming and illegal gaming August 20. On the 21st, the Commission will have a preliminary vote on the questions that will be included in the
final report.
Among those giving testimony are George Anderson, Director, Minnesota State Lottery; Jeff Dense, Professor, University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth Center for Policy Analysis; and Bill Saum, Director of Agent and Gambling Activities, NCAA.
The Public Sector Gaming Study Commission is a specially constituted national commission of state and local government leaders formed to study the social and economic impact of gaming and the role of the state and local governments and their citizens in making public policy related to gaming. The study was commissioned by the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States, a non-partisan organization of state legislators who chair or are active members of the committees responsible for gaming in their respective state houses across the country.
The study, which emphasizes state issues over federal issues, was initiated because the NGISC study failed to include public sector members.
