24 February 2009

On Tuesday, Racing Victoria Ltd. appointed Paul Bittar to a newly created senior role on its executive team.

Mr. Bittar, who is currently the chief executive of New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing, will report to the chief executive, Rob Hines, and oversee the Victorian governing body’s involvement in the re-licensing process, the aggregation and commercialization of racing's intellectual property, the oversight of its race fields policies and industry planning, Racing Victoria said.

“I’m excited by the prospect of working in one of the world’s leading racing jurisdictions,” said Mr. Bittar, who officially starts on April 14, in a statement. “I’m impressed with the vision laid out by (Racing Victoria Ltd.) and fortunate to have been provided a very clear opportunity to take a leadership role in the strategic process.”

Prior to his new post, Mr. Bittar held senior management roles at the British Horseracing Board, which is now the British Horseracing Authority, and Racing NSW.
