Rank Pulls Out of British Casino Association

14 January 2009

The Financial Times reported on Tuesday that The Rank Group has resigned from the British Casino Association, an industry trade body that appears to be garnering fewer and fewer supporters these days.

Formed in 1973, the association lost support from Gala Coral Group when the company confirmed its departure from four trade associations: Bingo Association, the British Casino Association, the Association of British Bookmakers and the Remote Gambling Association.

At that time, Gala told the Times it was pulling out for strategic reasons stating “we have separate trade associations where there's a lot of duplication.”

The Times said Rank’s departure had more to do with cost-cutting measures. According to the association’s Web site, membership runs at £17,504 for each London casino and £1,680 for each provincial casino.
