The National Gambling Impact Study Commission (NGISC) is winding up their recommendations phase as they begin the final report. IGN is gathering more details on the recommendations related to internet gaming which were adopted today.
There are several notable recommendations which they passed. These include, to no one's surprise, a complete prohibition on Internet gaming. The commissioners also hit on several items which affect the lifeblood of online gaming....the financial transactions. In one recommendation, they suggested that credit card debt related to internet gaming be made unrecoverable. In another, they suggested that wire transfers of funds to be used at offshore gaming establishments be prohibited.
Lastly, in an bow to the realization that this is an international issue, the NGISC adopted language which asked foreign governments to not harbor offshore gaming operations which "prey" on American players.
There was other discussion related to Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and search engines to somehow require them to block online gaming operations from US players. But this was a clearly a sticky issue and consequently was not passed.
Interactive Gaming News will be getting the actual text of the recommendations shortly and making them available to subscribers. Stay tuned.
