RIGT Warns of Mandatory Levy

15 February 2008

According to reports, the Responsibility in Gaming Trust (RIGT) has warned that a mandatory levy by the government will be inevitable unless the situation improves dramatically and it to meet its funding targets, in a letter sent to the UK gambling industry this week. So far only 13 per cent of 3800 licensed operators in the UK had donated to RIGT, it stated.

In the letter RIGT director Malcolm Bruce commented: “Ministers have made no secret of the fact that they will use powers available to them in the Gambling Act to ensure that problem gambling research, education and treatment are adequately funded on a continuous and predictable basis.”
