For the second time in a two-week period a U.S. House subcommittee will examine Internet gambling. The House Financial Services Subcommittee on Financial Institutions, chaired by Rep. Spencer Bachus, R-Ala., will hear testimony on Internet gambling legislation Tuesday at 10 a.m.

Rep. James Leach, R-Iowa, will testify on his bill, HR 556, which would prevent illegal Internet gaming sites from accepting bank payment instruments such as credit or debit cards, and his proposed changes to that bill. Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., will testify on legislation he introduced in the 106th Congress, HR 3125, which would prohibit gambling businesses from using the Internet for betting purposes, and similar legislation he plans to introduce in the current Congress.

On July 12, the House Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, also part of the Financial Services Committee, held a similar hearing.
