29 October 2008

RIA Novosti reported on Monday that Russia's first nationwide state-run lotto sold 7,400 tickets in less than five hours on its first day.

“The sales are held through 6,000 terminals in 70 Russian regions,” Mikhail Zharkov, a state lottery spokesperson, was quoted by the news agency as saying. “The terminals have been particularly installed in banks and mobile connection retail outlets.”

That state-owned Gosloto is estimated to bring in $1.1 billion in revenues throughout the next five years.
