Smarty Goes Online

31 March 1999
SmartDisk Corporation, a company that designs and enhances miniature media and smart cards, has integrated its Smarty(R) smart card reader/writer with online gaming, bringing its capabilities to personal computers.

The Smarty reader/writer is an integral part of Alliance Gaming Corporation's RAVE (Remote Access Verification Environment), a proprietary solution that allows users to wager from a remote location on sporting events or even individual plays using their personal computers. Alliance has licensed RAVE exclusively in the state of Nevada to International Sports Wagering Inc., a company that owns the online SportXctionTM wagering system. RAVE features include the verification of a customer's identity and location to safeguard against unauthorized users.

The Smarty(R) smart card reader/writer acts as a bridge between a smart card and a PC. Smarty, a product of SmartDisk, has the same dimensions as a 3.5-inch floppy disk and includes a slot into which a smart card can be inserted. The player inserts a smart card into the slot and slips Smarty into a PC's floppy drive. Increasing demand for smart cards in Asia, Europe and the U.S. is fueling a need for a versatile, economical card reader. Smarty aims to fulfill this need, supporting electronic commerce, banking, health care, and government applications, and the high-level security required in access control, network authentication and data certification.

The Nevada State Gaming Control Board has approved RAVE for PC-based race and sports wagering within Nevada State boundaries. "Smarty is ideal for online gaming customers because it combines ease-of-use and online security into one small package," SmartDisk President and CEO Michael S. Battaglia. "We look forward to a long and successful relationship with Alliance, and are proud that Smarty is an integral part of this cutting-edge gaming application."

Smarty is being distributed by Fischer International Systems Corporation, a non-exclusive distributor of SmartDisk products, and Alliance Gaming. For more information on SmartDisk Corporation, visit http://www.smarkdisk.com.
