NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Sportech Venues, Inc. ("SVI") a division of Sportech Plc (LSE: SPO) and operator of the Winners chain of off-track betting venues and telephone account wagering service, announces that it has been granted approval from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection to offer pari-mutuel wagering on horse racing over the Internet to Connecticut residents 18 years of age and older.
The approval was granted under Sportech's existing exclusive license to provide pari-mutuel wagering on horse racing, greyhound racing and jai alai in Connecticut, and under the current regulatory framework as an enhancement to their telephone wagering service. The approval allows wagering via the Internet by Connecticut residents only.
In addition to offering wagering on horse racing, the Winners Internet account wagering service will offer race information, streaming race video, race results and account services, in addition to a host of new online features to be announced.
David Schreff, Chief Operating Officer - The Americas, said: "Sportech is committed to the continual improvement of our facilities and services, and to enhancing the overall experience of our many customers. We are confident that our customers will appreciate the convenience and additional services that will be made available to them online. More importantly, they can be confident and assured that the service is secure and fully licensed, and that a portion of every dollar they wager goes back to Connecticut in the form of contributions to the general fund and to responsible gaming funds."
Sportech expects that the Winners online Account Wagering platform will launch by April 2013. Current holders of Winners telephone wagering accounts can use their account to wager online once the service is available. New customers can submit an account application online or through Customer Service. More information is available at www.mywinners.com.
