According to the Thoroughbred Times, a state senator said the proliferation of Native American casinos and Internet gambling has significantly impacted racing profits in New York.
William Larkin, chairman of the Senate Racing, Gaming and Wagering Committee, added that the state needs to promote a racino at Aqueduct race track, equine and jockey safety and cooperation between racetracks and off-track betting.
“New York’s racing industry is in trouble,” Mr. Larkin was quoted as saying.
