Steroid Use Banned for N.Y. Horseracing

6 January 2009

The use of steroids in New York horseracing has been blocked by new racing regulations that went into effect Jan. 1, The New York Times reported.

The ban, announced by the New York State Racing and Wagering Board in October, will penalize the trainer of any horse that tests positive for steroids, according to The Times.

“This was long overdue,” Mike Hushion, a horse trainer, told The Times. “I couldn’t believe everyone took so long to get rid of steroids.”
