Stricter Gaming Laws in NSW

6 February 2009
New South Wales will usher in new gaming machine laws on Saturday, tightening controls to offer greater protection to those most vulnerable to problem gambling.

The new laws reduce poker machine numbers and stop poker machine increases in high-risk areas, according to Kevin Greene, gaming and racing minister for New South Wales.

In addition, the laws make it harder for problem gamblers to access cash, and licensed venues will be forced to move gaming machines if their location is luring gamblers inside, and establishments that wish to apply for more poker machines will be subject to a local tax by the Casino, Liquor and Gaming Control Authority.
