Submission by AIGR to the Productivity Commission

3 June 2000
From time to time, IGN digs up and publishes archived submissions and testimonies from the Australian Productivity Commission's recent in-depth study of the country's gambling industry. Among those who testified before the Commission was Jan McMillen, executive director of the Australian Institute for Gambling Research (AIGR).

The attached file is a PDF version of the report McMillen submitted to the Commission along with her testimony. In the submission, McMillen concentrates on topics that she felt were insufficiently covered by the Draft Report.

McMillen specifically endorses a national approach regarding gambling and its effect on Australia and its citizens. Further, she recommends the establishment of:

  • a national industry ombudsman and mandatory code of conduct for the gambling industry;
  • a national advertising code;
  • a national standards authority to ensure compliance with a code of conduct and advertising code
