Super Bowl betting reached record levels this year after an estimated $10 billion was wagered on the event, which saw the New York Giants beat the favourite New England Patriots. Sean Van Patten of Las Vegas Sports Consultants told Reuters that a combination of the unbeaten Patriots and the popular Giants had caused the avalanche of interest.
"The Super Bowl is always the one game out of the year that is dominated by the public money and the general public," added Van Patten, who went on to say the event had this year more than any other "attracted the casual recreational bettor."
