Sutcliffe to Announce New Slot Machine Rules Wednesday

24 June 2008

A relaxation of United Kingdom slot machine laws is expected on Wednesday.

Reuters reported on Monday that Gerry Sutcliffe, sports minister for the United Kingdom, is expected to announce several measures to aid the bingo industry, which has been hit hard by the 2006 smoking ban and the reduction in the number of gaming machines permitted in halls.

The government is faced with three options should it decide to increase the allowance of £500 jackpot machines in bingo halls: linking the number of machines to the size of the bingo hall, with a maximum number of machines set at 15; allowing 20 per cent of all machines in a bingo hall to be the jackpot slot machines or simply allowing a maximum number of 15 machines.
