Taiwan to Evaluate Gaming Industry Development

13 August 2008

Taiwan’s government said on Wednesday that in December it will issue an assessment report investigating the gaming industry’s potential, according to the China Post.

Chen Tain-jy, chairman of the Council for Economic Planning and Development, told the paper that outlying islands have been seeking the legalization of gambling to boost its economy.

The report will address the industry’s impact, a potential timeline and government regulations, he added. If the assessment finds a feasible plan, then local governments will be able to apply to open a gaming business once all regulations are set, the paper reported.
