IGN recently caught up with Australian Capital Territory Gambling and Racing Commission Chief Executive Des McKee to get the ACT's position on the Nevada State Gaming Control Board's recent investigation of and complaint against American Wagering Inc.
Following are McKee's comments (taken from a letter to IGN):
"MegaSports (Australia) Pty. Ltd. (MegaSports) is licensed by the ACT Government to accept wagers on sporting and other contingencies. MegaSports has also obtained the necessary approvals to accept bets via the Internet.
"The regulatory framework applying in the ACT does not impose any restrictions on MegaSports regarding from whom and from where bets may be accepted. The transactions that form the basis of the complaint did not breach the regulatory framework applying in the ACT.
"Therefore, the complaint filed against American Wagering Inc. is a matter between American Wagering Inc. and the regulatory authorities of Nevada.
"MegaSports and American Wagering Inc. have kept the ACT Gambling and Racing Commission fully informed of the developments in respect of the complaint filed against American Wagering Inc.
"The ACT Gambling and Racing Commission will monitor the situation."
The Nevada State Gaming Control Board filed a complaint with the Gaming Commission against American Wagering because its Australian subsidiary, MegaSports (www.megasports.com.au), allegedly accepted wagers over the Internet from a bettor in Nevada.
