Internet gambling will continue to exist in North America. Whether it comes through the front door, backdoor or side door, it can't be stopped. The latest in a long line of wake-up-and-smell-the-coffee developments to support this fact involves the Mohawk Indian Nation and a company called Mohawk On-Line Computer Services.
The Franklin County, New York-based service has entered into a license agreement in which it will offer online wagering using Bingo BlastTM, a software product developed by Atlantic International Entertainment, Ltd. (AIE). Installation for the software is scheduled for May 1999. Revenues are anticipated to exceed $1 million in the first year of operation.
Mohawk On-Line Computer Services is licensed and regulated by the Mohawk Nation of Akwesasne in Franklin County, New York. The agreement with AIE is the first interactive gaming venture for Mohawk On-Line Computer Services and the Mohawk Nation. Portions of the proceeds will be applied to support governmental programs and public services for the people of the Mohawk Nation.
"As well as expanding the job skills and technology of our local workforce, we are excited to now bring our local businesses and culture to a global marketplace," said Mohawk On-Line Computer Services President and Manager Lorraine Montour. "We see this as a stepping stone to many more successful ventures in the future."
Atlantic President and CEO, Richard Iamunno, added, "We are pleased to be a part of this project and are excited about the benefits it will provide for the Mohawk Nation. Internet-based bingo is a major focus for the Company in 1999 and beyond. Working together with a Native American Tribe such as the Mohawk's is an important event for the company and will speed the implementation of our proprietary Internet bingo systems."
