Although more than nine months have passed since the Sept. 11 attacks, one online casino saw fit to use Flag Day as time to help victims of the tragedy.
King Neptunes Casino, based in Kahnawake, wanted to commemorate Flag Day by helping those Americans affected by the tragedies of Sept.11. So June 14-15, the casino celebrated the 225th anniversary of Flag Day by hosting the “Flag Day Charity Challenge.”
"Over the past year, we have been constantly amazed by people's capacity to give during a time of need," said Scott Gaines, the King Neptunes spokesman. "The response of our players--both American and non-American--is just another example of the generosity of strangers."
During the two-day event, CA $5 of every CA $100 purchase made at the casino was donated to Sept. 11 relief funds.
"Flag Day celebrates the ultimate expression of freedom, the American flag," Gaines said. "It's the perfect holiday to show our support for the values that America was founded upon."
"We view the charitable side of the business as very important, if we want to be supportive, we need to support others," said Michelle Oster, president of HMK Client Consultants, which operates King Neptunes Casino.
The casino hopes to make the Charity Challenge an annual event as well as create similar events.
"We'd like to not only repeat this promotion, but also expand the idea and find other charitable causes to support," Gaines said. "There's no limit to what we--and our players--can do for others."
