Seven horses have been euthanized at Santa Anita since the California-based racetrack's winter meeting opened on Dec. 26 -- each occurred following an injury during a race or during training.
Most of the fatalities occurred during the first week of the meeting, which is run on a synthetic course, according to a track spokesperson. The changing weather conditions caused the track's surface to separate, he said.
