LONDON -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Titanbet UK has signed former Liverpool and England star John Barnes as a brand ambassador for their new U.K.-facing sportsbook.
Barnes, 50, earned 79 caps for the national team during a glittering career which saw him win both the First Division and FA Cup on two occasions while at Anfield.
Titanbet, run by Playtech subsidiary PT Entertainment Services, is in the process of acquiring a UK licence and planning a number of initiatives to attract new U.K.-based customers.
As well as online content that will include written and video blogs, Barnes will be involved in other media work for Titanbet.co.uk to increase awareness and credibility of the brand.
His first engagement was to unveil a street art project celebrating his former team’s rich European heritage ahead of last week’s Champions League game against Real Madrid.
Spokesman Russell Yershon said they were delighted to have signed the former winger, who was included in the top 10 of a poll of 100 players who shook the Kop.
He added: “I’m confident John will have great resonance among football punters who remember his mazy runs in one of English football’s most successful teams.
“More importantly, he will give us a platform to position ourselves in the U.K. market alongside the more established players.”
John Barnes commented: “It’s a privilege to sign with Titanbet.co.uk in an ambassadorial role and I am very much looking forward to working with the brand to grow its presence in the U.K. market.”
The appointment of Barnes, who now works as a pundit for ESPN in the U.K. and SuperSport in South Africa, follows a deal to become the betting partner of The Sun’s daily sports betting column.
Titanbet.co.uk has also made its first foray into British horseracing, after agreeing to a deal to sponsor twilight racing and a National Hunt meeting at
Kempton Park Racecourse.
