Acxiom Corporation Teams Up with PricewaterhouseCoopers
Customer data integration (CDI) company Acxiom Corporation and consulting giant PricewaterhouseCoopers have announced a strategic alliance to help financial institutions comply with new mandatory privacy regulations stemming from the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. The companies also said they would aim to improve customer relationships and consumer trust in the financial industry. Under the terms of the partnership, PricewaterhouseCoopers' Global Risk Management Services (GRMS) division will assess a financial institution's consumer privacy compliance needs, and the two companies will design and implement a solution using Acxiom's AbiliTec CDI software.

BOPS, Inc. Unveils New Processor
A new processor that promises to speed delivery of Web content to handheld devices, including mobile phones and PDAs, and Internet telephone equipment was unveiled Monday by BOPS, Inc. The new processor design, dubbed the "SOC [system on chip] in a Box," represents a serious effort by BOPS, a four-year-old startup, to enter the billion-dollar market for digital signal processors (DSPs) used in mobile phones and electronic hardware. That market is currently dominated by chipmakers such as Texas Instruments, Analog Devices, Lucent Technologies and Motorola.

Hands-free Navigation System on the Horizon
A new voice-activated mobile phone application that promises to help drivers find their destination without taking their hands off the wheel will be demonstrated by Televigation later this month at the Upside Showcase trade show in Palm Springs, California, the company announced. Televigation said its TeleNavigation.voice system is designed to send spoken driving instructions to a user based on geographical position. Since the application is voice-activated, it lets users with hands-free devices keep their hands on the wheel and their eyes on the road while accessing driving directions. In addition, if a driver misses a turn, the system automatically recalculates new driving instructions to the final destination.

NextNet Makes Waves at Conference
NextNet Wireless announced at the start of the Wireless Communications Association conference that it has begun alpha testing the first completely nonline-of-sight (NLOS), low-cost, broadband fixed wireless (BFW) system using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing technology. Indeed, BFW systems providers are still openly debating the actual definition of broadband, whether or not standards should be set and the relative merits of single- or multi-carrier OFDM modulation schemes.
