A Solution to Mobil Sluggishness
The U.K.-based Smith Group reports that less than one-fourth of mobile phone users employ their phones to surf the Web or to conduct m-commerce. The reason for this, the firm believes, is that current WAP services are slow and primitive. Their solution, the General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), will speed up data transmission to 50 kbits per second. Customers will pay according to the amount of material they send as opposed to time spent online since GPRS is always connected; it is only active when transmitting data. Special rates are available for businesses.
