Toronto Bingo Halls Struggle with Charities, Competition

27 January 2009

The Charity Gaming Council of Ontario met with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission last week to resolve the amount bingo halls should give to charities, reported the Toronto Sun.

According to the report, Toronto bingo halls are plagued with competition forcing the halls to offer bigger pots in order attract more players, which leaves dwindling funds for charities.

Other halls have had to shutter due to increased competition with casinos, off-track betting and online gambling, Karen Mortfield, head of the Charity Gaming Council, told The Sun.
