As Connecticut's budget deficit swells to around $300 million, the state has reported its revenue streams -- including revenue from slots -- are hurting.
According to the Connecticut Post, Governor M. Jodi Rell revealed Monday that slot revenue during the one-month period to Aug. 30 had fallen $20 million -- with it oil company tax revenue ($27.4 million), sales tax ($10 million) and cigarette taxes ($5.2 million).
In related news, the Associated Press reports the Mohegan Sun casino in Eastern Connecticut -- hit by a worsening United States economic climate -- will delay the final projects of its $925 million expansion.
The Mohegan Tribal Council, the tribe's governing body and operator of the casino, said that construction on a 39-story property will be postponed at least a year.
