TRN, the Racing Network LLC, abruptly shuttered most of its operations on July 31, 2001 because it was unable to attract enough customers to keep the business alive.
"Despite an industry-inclusive approach which simulcast over 90 thoroughbred, harness, and greyhound racetracks, the multi-channel, direct-to-home broadcast provider was unable to achieve the subscriber growth necessary to sustain operations," a company statement said.
Callers to the corporate headquarters were greeted with a similar message. The recorded statement also promises that TRN customers would be contacted in the event of any future developments. Both toll-free customer assistance lines have been disconnected, and the public relations firm listed on the TRN website stopped working for the company at least a year ago.
TRN's associated company, The Racing Network International (TRNI), which broadcasts U.S. racing to the international market, has not been affected by the cancellation of other broadcast services, according to the TRN press statement.
