Tropicana Files for Bankruptcy

6 May 2008

American casino operator Tropicana Entertainment, a privately-owned company, filed for bankruptcy yesterday.

Last December the New Jersey Casino Control Commission denied the company's attempt to renew its license for the Tropicana Hotel Casino in Atlantic City. The property was then placed in trust. Tropicana says the Atlantic City property is not part of the bankruptcy filing.

Tropicana says its other casino and resort properties "are more than adequately financed", and it expects to continue normal operations and staff levels. The company owns the Tropicana casino in Las Vegas and eight other properties across the states.
