The UK Gambling Commission warns that it will not tolerate "unscrupulous operators" who manipulate their premises in order to work around gaming machine limits, according to the Guardian.
The Commission has learned that some operators have split their premises, such as by building walls, so that they can say they operate two premises rather than one. By this reasoning an operator can circumvent the limit on machines offering jackpots higher than £500.
Regulations prevent bingo halls, adult amusement arcades and betting shops from operating more than four such machines.
"The commission's crackdown focuses on arcade operators, but some of the industry's biggest names, including Rank, Gala Coral and Ladbrokes, have been planning or doing trials of adult gaming centres located within or very near existing properties," said the Guardian.
