The UK Gambling Commission has issued a new consultation document titled "Split Premises and Primary Gambling Activity" in response to requests to clarify its guidance on the definitions of premises and the primary purpose of premises.
The Commission says it has produced the document in order to address differences that have emerged in the handling of license applications as well as its concern that statutory provisions are not necessarily being correctly interpreted in this regard.
The document deals primarily with two issues: what is meant by a single premises; and what the Commission means by "primary purpose" (the requirement that the principal activity of a premises will be the activity authorized by the premises license in operation for that premises).
The consultation period lasts until September 8, 2008, and responses are welcomed from all interested parties.
