Victor Chandler Unveils Plans for an Online Casino

A Gibraltar-based bookmaker is sailing into new territory. Victor Chandler, "The Gentleman's Bookmaker," has made a big splash by announcing that it will cross over into new territory in August with the launching of an online casino.

The 50-year-old bookmaker has been successful in many endeavors. Its Gibraltar headquarters employ a staff of 500, with additional operations and sales offices in the U.K., Thailand, Hong Kong and Japan. It also has marketing operations in Hong Kong, Bangkok, Malaysia and Japan. The company's online sportsbook offers tax-free betting to an international audience in several languages. Annual revenues are reported at U.S. $1billion.

The new online casino will be designed, constructed and licensed by Chartwell Technology's wholly-owned subsidiary, GamingTech Corporation, and will feature the entire suite of Chartwell's 19 Java-based games. The games, which will be branded and customized specifically for VC, include Caribbean poker, Pai Gow poker, Blackjack, Roulette, Sic Bo, Baccarat and Craps, plus four types of video poker games and eight slot machine games.

Chartwell's Steve Latham says that his company's Java-based games are a great choice for Victor Chandler. "They've got massive bandwidth in Gibraltar, which is great for Java," he explained.

The big question now concerns where the new casino will be licensed. Don't over rule Gibraltar, where Victor Chandler holds a sports betting license. Tito Gomez with Gibraltar's Office of the Financial & Development Secretary previously told IGN that it was the government's policy to only license bookmaking operations, although at least one online casino, Cesares.com, is licensed in Gibraltar.

Victor Chandler representatives could not be reached for comment.
