Victorian bookmakers have been approved to take telephone and Internet wagers 24/7 through changes in the regulatory framework approved by Rob Hulls, the Victorian minister for racing.
The new legislation will also permit corporate bookmakers to register in Victoria, enhancing their competitiveness, which has been eroded by interstate operators, Mr. Hulls told the Melbourne Herald Sun.
The legislation, however, requires Victorian bookmakers to operate from an office based on a Victorian track.
Mr. Hulls said the reforms would go through the spring session in parliament and be in place by the end of the year.
