Looking to make inroads in the Canadian marketplace, VirtGame Corp. has gained approval of its systems last week from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission Of Ontario.

With the approval, VirtGame Corp. can supply its systems to licensed casino and lottery owners in the Ontario area.

Officials with VirtGame said the company's initial focus in Ontario will be centered on its sports wagering system. The company will also market and sell its other software products.

Scott Walker, the CEO of VirtGame, said the approval by the AGCO lends additional credibility to the company's mission to focus on clientele in regulated jurisdictions.

"The approval by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario validates our mission to be the premier provider of next generation software to the gaming and lottery industries," Walker said. "VirtGame is committed to providing software products to casinos and lotteries that operate within regulatory environments, and the approval of our company by a major North American regulatory agency is the most powerful statement made to date in support of our mission."

Walker said making the VirtGame sports betting system available in Ontario is a breakthrough development for the entire industry.

"We now have the ability to license our sports wagering system to the gaming operators of Ontario," he said. "The ability to offer sports wagering, outside of the lottery format, is a landmark event in the history of gaming in Ontario, and we are pleased to be an integral part of this event."

Officials with the AGCO told IGN Monday that with the approval of the VirtGame system, Walker's staff can now actively target lottery and casino operators based in the province. Officials with the Ontario Lottery Gaming Corporation, the company that handles business dealings for operators, said VirtGame hasn't sold its system to any operator to date, but they are aware of VirtGame's approval and are excited about the potential the company could bring to the gaming industry in Ontario.
