Two casinos in Ontario, Canada, both operated by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, have closed due to a workers strike.
Casino Brantford and Sudbury Downs Slots shut down shortly after midnight Saturday as company representatives and leaders of the Canadian Auto workers Union were unable to reach a new agreement.
The auto workers union represents about 725 workers at Casino Brantford, 80 at Sudbury Downs Slots and 110 and Woodbine Racetrack. Only security workers are on strike at Woodbine, and the facility remains open because managers are filling those duties.
The striking workers want better wages and benefits, as well as more full-time employees and a reduction in split shifts for part-time employees, according to the Toronto Star.
