WSOP Final Table Delayed to Improve Broadcast Program

2 May 2008

World Series of Poker organizers have decided to suspend playing for the No Limit Texas Hold'em Main Event once the pool of competitors is whittled down to a single table. The action begins in July, but the final table will be postponed until November in order to create a better television broadcast on ESPN.

In previous years, the event would conclude in July, but the coverage of the final table would not appear on ESPN until months later, when the results are already known to the general public. Under the new plan, final table action will resume Sunday, Nov. 9, and will broadcast on ESPN Tuesday, Nov. 11. ESPN will be able to show coverage of the action leading up to the final table throughout the intervening months.
