San Antonio authorities on Tuesday night served a search warrant on the home of Richard Lee, a World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event finalist, for evidence that reportedly connected Lee with an organized illegal Net gambling operation.
According to San Antonio police spokesman Joe Rios, "This operation is the largest here in San Antonio."
Inside Lee's home, authorities uncovered dozens of receipts for deposits on gambling proceeds, some in excess of $500,000.
"It was a pretty well oiled machine they were running out here," Rios said, describing Lee's home as "the brains or nerve center of the operation."
The police spokesman also reported that a money-counting machine, large deposits of cash, five luxury cars and several plasma televisions were seized.
The investigation, which began several months ago, is ongoing. No arrests were made, although Rios predicts the evidence uncovered Tuesday night will move the investigation forward.
In a related development, uncertainty as to the identity of Lee--whether he was the same Richard Lee who, three weeks ago, placed sixth at the WSOP final table--has been cleared by District tax records.
