The Internet will soon abound with U.K. lotteries. Just last week, eLot announced the formation of a new U.K. lottery that would sell tickets on the Web by summertime. Beating that launch date, however, is Premiership Lotter-e which just announced its own Internet lottery site (www.lotter-e.co.uk) with ticket sales beginning March 23rd.
Alladdin Lotteries Ltd. is managing the site; the Football Society of Great Britain is promoting the lottery. FA Premier League clubs Bradford City, Derby County, Everton, Leicester City, Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Sheffield Wednesday will receive 20 percent of ticket sales, while 53 percent is disbursed to winning players. Players can specify which team they want to benefit from their ticket purchase. The soccer clubs will use their earnings for upkeep, but not for acquiring players
Playing the lottery is easy. Customers deposit money in an account on the site, and can choose how much they want to spend for the weekly drawing. Winning odds are 1 in 46, with players choosing five numbers between 1 and 30.
More Internet lottery sites are expected in the future. The National Lottery is likely to launch its own Internet ticket sales, and UK retail and leisure firm Littlewoods is rumored to be considering an Internet lottery site also.
