You Bet Cancels Santa Anita

15 February 1999, a personal computer-based home wagering network, has stopped taking bets from Californians on races at Santa Anita.

The company, which began the service on January 28, said that it had modified its software to block such bets, and was "responding to the requests of Santa Anita and Ladbroke to do this." Santa Anita would not comment, but the president of the Thoroughbred Owners of California told Daily Racing Form that his organization questioned the legality of Ladbroke accepting bets from Californians on California races.
