After taking a step back earlier this week by losing Hollywood Park to Television Games Network, Youbet.com, Inc. has taken a few steps forward by announcing the addition of races from Australia--where more than 50 race tracks offer year-round turf racing--to its online horse racing and wagering network.
"Australian horse racing is different than horse racing in the United States," said Ron Luniewski, Youbet.com's executive vice president and chief operating officer. "It's more of a European style in that all of the races are on turf, and on some tracks the horses race in a clockwise direction. This is exciting new content for our subscribers. Not only does it provide them with challenging betting opportunities, it also
gives them a chance to study and learn more about international horse racing."
In 1998 Youbet.com announced the public release of the You Bet Network. Youbet.com allows members to watch and wager on a wide selection of coast-to-coast thoroughbred and standardbred horse racing, via its private closed-loop network. Members have 24-hour access to live racing from a choice of more than 30 race tracks across the country, and now Australia, commingled track pools, live audio/video and real-time wagering information.
