You Can't Have It Both Ways

Just a few days ago Bernie Horn, communications director of the National Coalition Against Legalized Gambling, was saying he thought the findings of surveys conducted by the National Gambling Impact Study Commission, would be more significant than the final report of the commission.

Yesterday the result of one of those Commission surveys was announced, saying that less than 1% of the U.S. population suffered from gambling addiction that required psychiatric treatment. The numbers of the $1.25 million survey were less than half those of Howard Shaffer of Harvard, one of the anti-gambling crowd's favorite researchers. Horn now says the count was "low-balled".
