Online Gaming in Cambodia

Online gaming companies are currently not allowed to operate in Cambodia. That could change in the near future, however. Cambodia, which allows brick-and-mortar casinos to operate, is considering liberalizing its gaming laws. The driving force behind the liberalization efforts, which began in earnest in June 2014, is attracting larger casino operators with a more a global focus. But legislators have indicated they would study the possibility of offering online gaming licenses as well.

In May 2016, Cambodian telecom firm CooTel introduced an online lottery known as KhmerLottery.

In November 2016, three L.Y.P. Group casinos were granted permission to begin online gambling operations.

In October 2020, Cambodia’s parliament passed a gambling bill that contained a range of provisions designed to tighten the government's control over the industry as parts of Cambodia became a hot spot for Chinese online gambling operations.
