Online Gaming in Alberta
The Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis Commission (AGLC) has been looking to introduce a state-run online gambling site for some time to generate tax revenue for the province.
Play Alberta was the only regulated online gambling site in the province until 2026. It offered a wide array of gaming options, including a variety of casino-style games (slots and virtual table games) and instants (scratch n’ wins).
With the passage of Alberta's iGaming Alberta Act (Bill 48) in May 2025, it became the second Canadian province to establish an open online gambling market, following Ontario's launch in April 2022. Alberta's market will welcome its first private operators in July 2026.
