Online Gaming in United States Virgin Islands

The United States Virgin Islands at one time issued internet gambling licenses under the Virgin Islands Internet Gaming and Internet Gambling Act of 2001. However, in 2004, the U.S. Department of Justice warned the Virgin Islands government that hosting internet gambling sites violated U.S. federal laws, effectively halting the development of the industry.

In 2011, the DOJ modified its position on the Wire Act, saying that it applied only to sports betting and that intrastate gaming was legal. In 2013, the 2001 act was declared legal, and the U.S. Virgin Islands was open for online gaming business. In 2014, the U.S. Virgin Islands began actively soliciting online gaming operators to do business there, but no online gambling regime has been set up in the territory as of yet.
