Online Gaming in Iceland
There are no laws prohibiting online gambling in Iceland.
In practice, Iceland does not license or regulate private online casinos or sportsbooks: foreign operators are not allowed to target Icelandic players, and advertising for offshore gambling is banned, but there is still no dedicated licensing regime or systematic blocking of gambling websites.
Online betting in Iceland is therefore a legal grey area: individuals are not prosecuted for using offshore sites, payments to foreign operators are not routinely blocked, and many Icelanders bet online despite the lack of local consumer protection or recourse to an Icelandic regulator if disputes arise. Repeated proposals in the 2010s to either ban or fully regulate online gambling have not yet passed.
