Online Gaming in District of Columbia

In February 2013, Washington's city council halted efforts to bring online gaming to the District of Columbia in a 10-2 vote.

Washington's venture into online gaming began in 2010, when an amendment allowing online gaming was attached to a budget bill in the middle of the night. The bill passed without many realizing that it authorized online gaming.

Uproar ensued when the District moved to implement online gaming, which would have included poker, bingo and blackjack. The online gaming system would have been administered by the city's lottery agency.
