Florida has tried and failed to pass legislation regulating online gaming in the past few years. Now, in its haste to shut down "internet sweepstakes cafés," the legal status of online poker and all online gaming is uncertain. In May 2021, after years of negotiations, Florida elected officials and the state’s Seminole Tribe reached a deal that will expand the tribe’s gaming options, including online and retail sports betting. However, the new compact was still subject to state and federal approval, leaving components of the deal in jeopardy.
