In December 2013, the North Carolina Lottery began selling a lottery subscription service online. The subscription service allows players physically located in North Carolina to buy tickets in advance for Powerball, Mega Millions and Carolina Cash 5 games.

Players have to buy tickets for at least two weeks' worth of drawings in one of the three games. The subscription service cannot be used to buy single tickets or instant scratch tickets.

Subscriptions can be purchased at lucke-zone.com.

In May 2017, the House Committee on Regulatory Reform voted down a bill HB 279 that would have regulated daily fantasy sports within the state.

In 2019, bill HB 929 didn’t make it through the House due to opposition from anti-gambling representatives and former law enforcement officials.
